Trade body re-confirms our gold standard in asbestos management and training

London-based asbestos removal contractor, Clifford Devlin, has been re-presented with gold awards for technical capability and operative competency by the Industry sector’s trade body. The gold awards, the highest achievable, were announced in October 2019 by the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA).

This is the second consecutive year the contractor has achieved gold under ARCA’s Site Audit Accreditation Scheme in which members’ work is assessed by ARCA inspectors on site. Clifford Devlin joins just 28 other UK contractors that qualified for a gold award in 2019 providing compelling evidence of the quality and reliability of its work. Site audits under the scheme are now unannounced.

At the same time, ARCA also presented the licenced contractor with an eleventh consecutive gold award for training. Fifteen of Clifford Devlin’s operations team attended Operative or Supervisor Training Needs Analysis (TNA) based training with two receiving management update courses at ARCA’s training facility in Raleigh, Essex. Their average score of 96.3% over the course of the year comfortably surpassed the 92.5% threshold for achieving the gold standard.

“We are delighted to have our gold awards re-confirmed by ARCA,” said Managing Director, Tim Clifford, “The Site Audit Accreditation Scheme is the premier tool for independently evaluating and quantifying quality and compliance within the asbestos sector and the awards are testament to the strength of our management systems and the discipline and competence exhibited by our teams in the field.”

Clifford Devlin was an early adopter of its Site Audit Accreditation Scheme (SAAS), introduced in 2002, which independently evaluates and validates the standards of its members.  SAAS audits are unannounced with inspectors checking everything from site paperwork including the Plan of Work to the integrity of enclosures and decontamination facilities, waste routes and storage, all health and safety measures and competence of removal techniques.
The company has been a corporate member of ARCA since 1986 and has developed a close relationship with the industry body. Tim Clifford is currently a member of ARCA’s Governing Council and also serves on the Association’s Training Committee.

The Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA) is the leading trade association in the field of asbestos management services. It was formed in 1980 to support the asbestos removal industry in the UK.  During its 39 years in operation the Association has seen many changes in working procedures and legislation. Membership has grown considerably from the original four founder members. The trade body now has over 260 members throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
