Gold Rush

18th October 2018

Asbestos removal contractor, Clifford Devlin, has received gold awards for its operative competency and technical capability following independent audits of its sites.  The accolades, the highest achievable, were awarded in October 2018 by the industry sector’s trade body, the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA).

This was Clifford Devlin’s tenth consecutive gold award for training but its first for inspections of its sites under the ARCA Site Audit Accreditation Scheme which is considered the premier tool for independently evaluating and quantifying quality and compliance within the asbestos sector. To achieve the Gold Award Clifford Devlin scored Grade B or above on two unannounced site audits carried out by ARCA inspectors, each year for the last 3 years. The company joins just 20 other contractors which have won the Gold Award in 2018 for the audit scheme from ARCA’s 190 members.

Clifford Devlin’s Managing Director, Tim Clifford commented:
“We are delighted to be awarded our first gold in the Site Audit Accreditation Scheme. This is an endorsement of the highest standards we adhere to and reward for the effort and investment made in maintaining and enhancing the quality of our asbestos removal work over the years.”

The company was an early adopter of its Site Audit Accreditation Scheme (SAAS), introduced in 2002, which independently evaluates and validates the standards of its members.  SAAS audits are unannounced with inspectors checking everything from site paperwork including the Plan of Work to the integrity of enclosures and decontamination facilities, waste routes and storage, all health and safety measures and competence of removal techniques.

Clifford Devlin’s tenth training gold was awarded after thirteen of its asbestos supervisors and operatives attended courses at ARCA’s training facility in Rayleigh, Essex and achieved an average score of 94.3% over the period of a year.

Satish Patel, Training Manager of ARCA commented:
“This is a considerable achievement and you and your team should be justifiably pleased. It is a testament to all Clifford Devlin’ staff that have attained a higher than average score in training sessions to achieve this award.”

The threshold for the ARCA’s Gold Training Award is eight or more operatives scoring an average 92.5% over the course of 12 months.

Clifford Devlin has been a corporate member of ARCA since 1986 and has developed a close relationship with the industry body. Tim Clifford is currently a member of ARCA’s Governing Council and also serves on the Association’s Training Committee.

The Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA) is the leading trade association in the field of asbestos management services. It was formed in 1980 to support the asbestos removal industry in the UK.  During its 38 years in operation the Association has seen many changes in working procedures and legislation. Membership has grown considerably from the original four founder members. The trade body now has over 260 members throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
