“We are delighted to have our asbestos licence renewed,” commented Managing Director, Tim Clifford, ”A three year licence is the longest available and clearly demonstrates that the HSE are convinced of the robustness of our management systems and ability of our site teams to implement best practice.”
Clifford Devlin has held a continuous licence since 1983.

The company’s asbestos management service is also regulated through its membership of trade association the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA). The company has been a corporate member since establishing its Asbestos Division in 1986. In 1998, Managing Director, Tim Clifford, became a member of ARCA’s Governing Council, a post he held for 10 years before moving to a position on its Training Committee. Four years ago, he returned to Governing Council, including a successful re-election in October 2016 for a further year.

The company helped ARCA trial its own Site Audit Accreditation Scheme in 2002 and all employees in the Asbestos Division receive annual training from ARCA-accredited providers. In November 2016 Clifford Devlin received a sixth consecutive Gold Award from ARCA for asbestos training in recognition of a 96.9% pass rate.

Asbestos is classified as a category 1 carcinogen, with asbestos related disease causing around 5000 deaths every year in the UK. Most higher-risk work with asbestos can only be carried out by a licensed contractor. That includes removing sprayed coatings, removal or other work which may disturb pipe lagging loose fill insulation, asbestos millboard or asbestos insulating board (AIB) and cleaning up significant quantities of loose/fine debris containing asbestos dust.
